Recently, Liberia Electric Power Corporation (LEC) submitted an application for price adjustment to a public hearing organized by the State Power Regulatory Commission. It is planned to implement the block electricity price scheme in January 2022, reducing the current residential electricity price from US $0.35 to US $0.30 and the commercial electricity price from US $0.35 to US $0.27. At the same time, preferential tariff schemes are launched for super large customers engaged in manufacturing and consuming more than 1500 KVA of electricity per month.

According to Sam zimbe, executive director of the company's commercial and regulatory services, the company's commercial losses are mainly caused by electricity theft by residential and commercial users, and the new anti electricity theft law is expected to solve this problem. The block electricity price scheme is not only more fair and just for different consumer groups, but also provides preferential electricity prices for low-income families. It is expected that business losses will be reduced by about 5% by the end of this year, and a similar reduction trend will occur from 2022 to 2024.
