The German energy company ion group plans to spend 22 billion euros to expand the power grid by 2026 and about 2 billion euros to promote the digital investment offensive, aiming to support the energy transformation.

Ion group said that the energy grid investment will increase by 1 billion euros per year in the next five years to prepare for the expansion of green power, as the company expects to integrate 35-40 GW of additional renewable energy capacity during this period.

Another key issue in the company's five-year strategy is digitization. About 2 billion euros will be invested in the digitization of power grid planning, monitoring and control, so as to realize the full digital control of its infrastructure at all voltage levels.

Green hydrogen is also part of the growth plan of ion group. The company will use its existing natural gas distribution network to expand its business in the region and provide green fuel for industrial small and medium-sized enterprises.

In addition, about 5000 charging points will be built by 2026 to expand the electric vehicle charging infrastructure of ion group, and € 500-600 million will be invested in climate friendly distributed energy infrastructure solutions every year.

In order to fund the investment, ion group plans to raise 2 billion to 4 billion euros by selling businesses that do not meet the company's growth, sustainability and digital standards.
